Jorge Masvidal, who is 40 years old, fought in a boxing match earlier this year but lost to Nate Diaz by decision. Before that, he won against Diaz in 2019, earning the title of the first BMF champion. After losing four fights in a row to top fighters, Masvidal is now looking to make a comeback in MMA.
Jorge Masvidal Wants Conor McGregor for His UFC Comeback Fight
After winning big against Diaz, Masvidal got his first chance to fight for a title in 2020 against Kamaru Usman. Even though he stepped in on short notice, Masvidal fought hard through all five rounds, but he lost in the end.
Then, he faced Usman again and lost more clearly, followed by defeats to Colby Covington and Gilbert Burns.
Now, Masvidal wants to win again and is thinking about fighting Conor McGregor next year. McGregor hasn’t fought since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021.
Even though McGregor hasn’t fought in a while, he keeps saying that he’ll come back next year. He might even be the main fighter for a big UFC event in Miami.
Because fighting McGregor could bring in a lot of money, Masvidal believes they will face off in April.
“I’d like for it to be Conor because I heard he also wants to fight on that same date,” he told Hablemos MMA.
“He’s never mentioned my name because he knows I’ll rip his head off. However, if him and the UFC make that mistake, I’ll take his head off in Miami in April.
“They’re saying he might want to do it, but I’m chilling. If he wants to do it, great – I’ll kill him.”
Jorge Masvidal has named Leon Edwards as a potential opponent for his UFC return. While a fight with McGregor could be huge, there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding McGregor’s return.
Instead of focusing solely on McGregor, Masvidal has mentioned former welterweight champion Leon Edwards as a backup option. Since losing his title to Belal Muhammad earlier this year, Edwards hasn’t given any hints about his next fight. But with Masvidal planning his comeback at 170 lbs, Edwards might be interested in the potential matchup.
“[Edwards] and I have history, and it’s time to settle it,” Masvidal added. “He’s not booked, and neither am I. Let’s go, sign the contract, and I’ll break your face.”
