Jorge Masvidal might be facing criminal charges, but the long arm of the law won’t stop the UFC star from getting into politics.

‘Gamebred’ would support Florida governor Ron DeSantis‘ at a campaign event. Masvidal wasn’t just a supporter in the crowd, he’d attend as a special guest speaker. This would come even after Masvidal’s recent charges which includes aggravated battery. This would stem from an alleged assault on Colby Covington.

Jorge Masvidal, freedom fighter?

Masvidal would plead ‘not guilty’ after being released on bail. Awaiting his next court date, Masvidal would back DeSantis’ run for re-election as governor of Florida. Senator Manny Diaz didn’t have a problem with Masvidal’s legal troubles, saying he fights for freedom.

“Jorge is a fighter, he ran into another fighter, it’s not like he beat up some kid on the street,” Sen. Manny Diaz Jr. told WPLG Local 10 (h/t: MMA Mania). “Look, it happens. He’s a fighter for freedom and I think we all support him.”

The Cuban fighter would even let Governor DeSantis hold up his BMF belt, paying his respect to the political figure.

Of course, Masvidal’s appearance at the event would be clouded by the legal controversy surrounding him.

“No talk (of the incident) but you were able to see the hand was a bit swollen,” attendee Ophir Rahimi told reporters. “There was a cut there, so I’m assuming that was the right hand that was used.”

Masvidal Called A ‘True Patriot’

Even with two charges facing Masvidal, James Koutoulas would focus on Masvidal’s endorsement of the Florida governor.

“Incredible to see true patriot @gamebredfighter present the best governor in America @GovRonDeSantis
the BMF belt for fighting to keeping Florida free and setting an example for the rest of the world.”
