Video: Jorge Masvidal Details Why He Punched ‘Hooligan’ Leon Edwards Backstage At UFC London

Jorge Masvidal Explains UFC London Altercation With UFC Welterweight Leon Edwards

Last night (Sat, March 16, 2019) in the main headline of UFC On ESPN +5 Jorge ‘Gamebred’ Masvidal picked up arguably the biggest win of his career when he put former UFC title challenger Darren Till to sleep via second-round KO.

Well, that wasn’t the last punch he delivered at UFC London.

Following his scintillating win, Masvidal participated in the post-fight interview. ‘Gamebred’ interrupt his conversation when he saw UFC London co-main event winner Leon Edwards scolded his name across the room.

It wasn’t pleasing to the ear, Jorge immediately approached Leon and challenged him to say things on the face. Within seconds ‘Gamebred’ uncorded a blistering punch on Edwards’ face. (Check the video here).

From the past few weeks, UFC had witnessed fighters unnecessary outside the Octagon brawls. Earlier this month Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington got into an altercation where they shoved and landed some punches through a crowded Palms Casino buffet line. Now Masvidal and Edwards traded some punches backstage last night at UFC London.

Speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto Masvidal details why he landed a punch at Edwards. (h/t MMAMania)

”I’m doing my interview and this hooligan comes by saying some stuff, like ‘July, get your ass kicked in July, July!’” Masvidal said. “I go ‘Maybe bro, whatever, because maybe I wanna kick your ass in April. Maybe I don’t wanna wait until July. Maybe I don’t want to fight you in a prize ring because you’re not worth the training camp, I’ll just fight you here because you’re a scrub.’ You know?”

”So I tell him to just say it to my face like a man,” he continued. “You’re saying it and walking away? We’re both men, and as I’m walking to him I got my hands behind my back to signal to him that I’m not looking for problems. But he put his hands up like this and he walks towards me. Well … where I’m from if you do that you’re going to punch me in the face and that’s not going to happen.”

”You are what you are, you’re just a loser in life, man,” Masvidal finished. “You’re not going to get a hit off on me. So I had to give him the three piece with the soda and then just glide out of there, you know? And then some of his friends tried to sucker punch me, those guys did a big mistake.”

UFC head honcho Dana White didn’t blame Masvidal but said UFC needs to do a better job, so this shit doesn’t happen.

Good thing he won $100,000 in bonuses for scoring a KO win at UFC London.

Earlier it was reported that British police was investigating the backstage melee. Now ESPN’s Ariel Helwani says Edwards refuse to press charges against Masvidal.

What do you think of this brawl?

  1. Poor Leon Edwards- just doing what the WWUFC brass wants him to do and manufacture “beef” to try & sell more PPVs. Unfortunately for him, he did it to a real man who doesn’t play those kid games, and ended up wearing his lesson on his cheek.

This is all on Edwards for being a disrespectful punk (who got what he deserved) and the UFC who encourages beef in the 1st place. Gamebred should receive a verbal warning.

Look, MMA fans don’t need beef to make the sport exciting, but the UFC needs beef (& melodrama) to keep WWE fans’ attention & interest. This is a well-known fact. And this is how backstage & cageside brawls get started.

    UFC + WWE = WWUFC
