Jon Jones target date, CM Punk return and more in the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill

Sunday Morning Rumor Mill 722

Hello from Hamburg. What a weird MMA week. The more things change, the more they stay the same and the Sunday Morning Rumor Mill is here to put it all (most….some) of it into perspective.

Despite its self MMA will never die.  One of the best skills of the sport is it’s ability to survive, advance and sometimes produce some cool shit out of nowhere.

As always these are rumors that have been talked about behind closed doors between MMA higher ups, so take them as MMA rumors.

  • Huge if true but here have been rumblings that Jon Jones is getting closer to some good USADA news. A new possible return date for Bones would be July 2019, which when all things considered isn’t the worst outcome for him.
  • A new rumor to kill or put on pause is the long held talked about belief that the UFC was looking to buyout Invicta FC. The thought process behind this rumored theory is the UFC would purchase the promotion and leverage it for more booked events on the ESPN+ platform.
  • Rumors are that feelers have been put out and CM Punk is being contacted by a number of pro wrestling promotions. This may be another sign that Punk is done with his UFC/MMA career.
  • All signs point to Alexander Gustafsson being pulled out of UFC 227 after a late replacement was not found this week. Expect Gus to be bumped to UFC 228 or UFC 229 if possible.
  • A rumored fight Frankie Edgar between The Korean Zombie looks to be good to go for a UFC Fight Night in Denver. This card will fall near the anniversary of UFC 1 and may be much more stacked than your typical Fox event.
