Jon Jones has opened up for the first time following the loss of his older brother, Arthur Jones, a former NFL star who passed away at age 39 on Friday morning. The MMA community has rallied in support, including UFC fighters who reached out immediately after UFC 320.
Honoring Arthur Jones
Jones posted a message on social media detailing the funeral service set for Saturday and emphasizing the family’s privacy.
“We kindly ask that those who knew and loved Arthur join us in paying their respects. Out of respect for our family’s privacy during this difficult time, we ask that attendance be limited to close friends, family, and those who shared a meaningful connection with Arthur.”
While UFC president Dana White spoke about his conversations with Jones on Friday, this marks the first public statement from the former light heavyweight and heavyweight champion. His message has been met with widespread support and condolences from fans and fighters alike.

Although Jon Jones retired earlier this year and declined a potential fight with Tom Aspinall, he expressed renewed interest after hearing about the upcoming UFC event at the White House. To remain eligible, Jones has officially entered the UFC drug-testing pool, signaling his intent to participate in this special event while staying compliant with all requirements. He continues to engage in public appearances and stays involved in the sport despite his retirement from regular competition.
