Jon Jones Called Thiago Santos “The Most Powerful” Fighter He Has Ever Met

Jon Jones successfully defended his 205-pound strap last night against dangerous challenger Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC 239 PPV (pay-per-view) event, which was held inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

But it was a very tough match for Jones because he barely won Brazilian striker via tight split decision after five rounds of war. Santos’ hurt his knee in the second frame, but he fought until the end. Two judges scored the close contest in the favor of Jones, while the third said the result was 48-47 for “Marreta” (check official scorecard).

Jon Jones spoke in the UFC 239 post-fight press conference.

The reporter asked Jon Jones whether Santos exceeded his expectations. The undisputed 205-pound champion and one of the most dominant UFC fighters replied positively and even confessed the Brazilian was the most powerful rival he has ever faced inside the Octagon.

“Yeah, he did, honestly I’d have to say he’s the most powerful guy I have ever fought”.

“You know, I blocked almost all of his face punches that maybe two of them actually landed on me. Man, he knocked my mouthpiece out even when I was blocking (his punches), it was making me my defense rock side to side very powerful you know I think Thiago represented his team his country so well.”

Jon Jones fought some very strong punchers in the past – Rampage Jackson, Daniel Cormier, Ryan Bader, Mauricio Rua, Stephan Bonnar, and others. These compliments speak positively on Brazilian’s striking power. What are your thoughts on Jones’ statements?
