Jon Jones isn’t changing his mind about fighting Tom Aspinall.

Jon Jones, the UFC heavyweight champion, was active on Twitter late Thursday, saying he wasn’t interested in fighting Aspinall. Aspinall is ranked number one in the heavyweight division, and many fans thought Jones should fight him. But Jones dismissed the idea and posted a Thanksgiving message about how he stays successful, while also responding to fans’ comments.

“Sure, call me a duck for the next year,” Jones responded to claims he’s avoiding Aspinall. “Tom will lose within the next two or three fights and my legacy will go on as the greatest MMA fighter ever. End of story.”

Jon Jones has been getting lots of messages from fans saying he should fight Tom Aspinall, who is the interim heavyweight champ. Aspinall won his title in November 2023 by beating Sergei Pavlovich really fast in just 69 seconds. But instead of fighting Aspinall, Jon and the UFC decided to go ahead with the fight against Stipe Miocic. Jon and Miocic finally faced off on November 16 at UFC 309, and Jon won the fight with a cool spinning kick to Miocic’s body, ending the fight with a TKO.

Jon Jones has said a lot that fighting Stipe Miocic was very important because Miocic is one of the best fighters in heavyweight history. He also thinks Tom Aspinall hasn’t done enough to fight him yet, even though Aspinall has won a lot of fights. Jon has been amazing at 205 pounds, but he’s only had two fights as a heavyweight. Instead of Aspinall, Jon wants to fight Alex Pereira, the light heavyweight champ. He’s also said that if the UFC talks don’t go well, he might stop fighting altogether.

“Why, I’m incredibly wealthy, I have achieved all my goals in the sport, Hall of Famer, broke many records,” Jones wrote. “Serious question why should I fight again?”

“I’d probably vacate the belt before officially retiring,” Jones wrote later. “Let’s see how my meeting with UFC goes.”

Jon Jones said that being called a “duck” doesn’t make him upset. He doesn’t mind what people say about him. He’s more focused on his own goals and what he plans to do next.

“Crazy how being called a ‘duck’ pays better than most of you internet tough guys will make in a lifetime,” Jones said. “Two fights in four years and still one of the biggest names in the sport? That’s not ducking, that’s winning. God’s blessings hit different, stay mad.”
