Jon Jones gets the decision against Alexander Gustafsson in probably the greatest fight of 2013

If you weren’t on the edge of your seat throughout that entire fight then you’re simply not human. You’re probably a cyborg devoid of any shred of emotion. You don’t sleep at night and when it’s your birthday, you don’t appreciate a single present your friends give you. Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson had everything necessarily to make you salivate for twenty-five minutes.

I don’t even know where to start. Alexander Gustafsson took Jon Jones down — something that no one could have even predicted. He placed hands on the champion, puffed up both his eyes with a steady stream of straight jabs — heck he even cut him and it nearly looked like the fight would be stopped.

Going into round five it was literally anyone’s fight. Two judges ruled the bout 48-47, so if Gustafsson would have just have taken Bones down, he could have won the fight. Certainly people are going to talk about the massive amount of Vaseline placed on Jones’ face going into the fifth round, but I simply don’t think it would have mattered.

In the end, Jon Jones gets the unanimous decision in a fight that was probably the greatest MMA bout of 2013.
