- John McCarthy commented on Michael Chandler’s performance against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309
- “Big John” thinks “Iron” is about to suffer more losses like Tony Ferguson
John McCarthy criticized Michael Chandler over his UFC 309 performance and compared his career to Tony Ferguson
Chandler is following the Ferguson blueprint
Speaking on his Weighing In podcast with Josh Thomson, “Big John” did not mice his words in expressing his disappointment over Chandler’s poor showing against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. Moreover, McCarthy assumed that “Iron” is no longer an elite contender and is bound to become like “El Cucuy,” who faded away to obscurity.
“Michael Chandler got crushed, I mean, just crushed… Dustin doesn’t want to fight him again because of the same things that he f**king ended up doing in the Oliveira fight… Now I always sit there and say ‘If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying’ but don’t sit there and f**king tell me that he didn’t hit him to the back of the head! I don’t give a f*** if your fist is going on the other side of his ear, when your forearm is hitting to the back of the head, it’s the f**king back of the head… Dustin Poirier doesn’t want to fight him, the guy f**king fish-hooked him, he basically spit in his face, come on, you don’t do that sh*t!,” McCarthy said.
“I’m not saying he’s got seven losses in a row I’m saying he’s on the same path as Tony Ferguson… “Mike’s in the same position, he’s trying, there’s not a doubt in my mind that he’s working his a** off but it’s just not happening like how it used to happen for him,” he added.
Chandler still wants McGregor
After the rematch with Oliveira, Chandler opened up about how seriously hurt he was physically. Nevertheless, “Iron” is still mentally tough. In fact, he was already looking forward to his return during his Octagon interview with Joe Rogan.
According to Chandler, he is still eyeing for that Conor McGregor match possibly in June or July. As it stands, Chandler has now suffered two massive defeats in a row.
