John Lineker Out Of UFC 219 Due To An Emergency Surgery Procedure

UFC bantamweight contender John Lineker has pulled from UFC 219 event, a fight against Jimmie Rivera because of a tooth infection and will have to undergo emergency surgery, according to a report by MMAFighting.

UFC Officials are currently scrambling to find a replacement.

Lineker (30-8), who accepted the fight on several weeks’ notice, most recently beaten Marlon Vera via unanimous decision at UFC São Paulo in October.

Lineker is the second opponent to have to withdraw from the UFC 219 fight with Rivera. Rivera originally was supposed to face former champion Dominick Cruz, but Cruz was forced to pull out with an arm injury last month.

Jimmie Rivera holds a 21-1 professional MMA record and is riding a 20-fight winning streak with most recently getting his hand raised over Thomas Almeida and Urijah Faber.

UFC 219 will take place at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena and is headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between champion Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm. The co-main event will feature a lightweight bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Edson Barboza.
