Joe Rogan says Donald Trump moved fast on ibogaine after a private text exchange, and now the subject has jumped from podcast talk and fight-world chatter into a White House policy push.
During the executive order event, Rogan explained exactly how he says the conversation started. Rogan said:
“I wanna tell everybody how this happened. I send President Trump some information. With one dose of Ibogaine, more than 80% of people are free of addiction. With two doses, it’s more than 90%. I sent him that information. The text message came back: ‘Sounds great. Do you want FDA approval? Let’s do it.’ It was literally that quick!”

Trump: "Joe Rogan, who's a fantastic person. We did an interview before the election. We had over 300m people. And I said, 'Oh man, I hope Kamala doesn't do it.' And she didn't. He wanted her to do it but she didn't. Someday Joe is gonna explain why. I could tell you why." pic.twitter.com/LGbqpVepFw

Trump confirmed that Rogan had already raised the issue directly with him. He said:
“I got a call from a number of people, including the great Joe Rogan. And he said we have to do something about this, and I looked into it.”
Trump also joked during the event:
“We all respect Joe. He’s a little bit more liberal than me. That’s okay. I have a lot of friends that are liberal!”
The order itself did not give ibogaine full FDA approval. What it did was push faster review for certain treatments already moving through the pipeline, while also widening some clinical-trial access for terminally ill patients.
Joe Rogan’s UFC history gives the ibogaine story a real MMA angle
This lands inside the fight world because Rogan is not just a massive podcast host. He has been one of the UFC’s signature commentators for years, and his voice is still tightly tied to how fans consume the sport.
The MMA connection gets even stronger because Conor McGregor has publicly credited ibogaine with helping change his life. That does not prove every claim around the treatment, but it shows why the subject already had traction in combat sports. Rogan has also spent years discussing psychedelics, alternative treatment paths, and recovery on his podcast, which made this White House appearance a natural extension of a subject he has pushed for a long time.
