The UFC has been home to countless legendary fighters, but when it comes to the greatest heavyweight of all time, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has a surprising choice. While many would name Jon Jones, Brock Lesnar, or Daniel Cormier as the best, Rogan’s pick doesn’t even include a UFC fighter at all.
Joe Rogan Names Fedor Emelianenko the Greatest Heavyweight Ever
In a recent episode of JRE Fight Companion, Rogan made it clear that in his eyes, Fedor Emelianenko stands out as the greatest heavyweight fighter in MMA history. Despite never fighting in the UFC, the Russian fighter made a name for himself in Pride and other promotions, finishing his career with an impressive 40-7 record and an incredible 30-fight win streak.
“Juicy Fedor from Pride… I don’t know if anybody beats Fedor in his prime,” Rogan said. “He was so good. Fedor walked down [Mirko] Cro Cop when he was in his prime.”
Fedor’s style was a mix of brutal striking and savvy grappling, and he often showcased his toughness in thrilling bouts. One of the most memorable moments of his career came in his fight with Kevin Randleman. After Randleman suplexed Fedor on his head, the Russian heavyweight recovered quickly and locked in a kimura submission, showing just how dangerous he was on the ground.
“You’ve got to remember most of that fight was standing up, and Fedor was going blow-to-blow with Cro Cop and walking him down,” Rogan added. “That Randleman armbar, he f****** suplexes him on his head and five seconds later he’s got him in a kimura, it’s crazy. He was different. He was a monster.”
While the UFC boasts some of the biggest names in MMA history, Rogan believes no heavyweight can match Fedor’s dominance in his prime. Even with the rise of Jon Jones in the division, Rogan stands by his claim that Fedor Emelianenko is the greatest heavyweight to ever compete in the sport.
