- The UFC commentator admitted he and the commentary crew had already written off “Rocky” when the KO took place
Everybody was expecting the Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards rematch at UFC 278 to be exciting but certainly nobody thought it would end up the way it did. Just when the reigning champ was ready to close it out with a likely decision victory, “Rocky” caught him with a stunning head-kick and dethroned “The Nigerian Nightmare” in the final round.

History indeed
Like the most of us, longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan was stunned with Edwards’ knockout win. For Rogan, it wasn’t just a head-kick for the ages, but “the greatest” head-kick KO win of all time due to the underlying circumstances of the fight.
“That was one of the most spectacular head-kick knockouts in the history of the sport — considering the stakes, considering the consequences,” Rogan said via MMA Junkie. “I mean, it’s flawless – flawless technique. … The way he set it up with that left, Kamaru leaned to the right – perfect head kick, out cold.”
“Nothing compares,” he raved. “It’s the greatest head-kick knockout in the history of the sport – with the most consequences, the most at stake, the most doubt, the most people counting him out, including us.”

A beautiful comeback
Looking back at it, many saw Edwards stealing the opening round but it was “The Nigerian Nightmare” who took over the fight from that point on. So when “Rocky” pulled off the head-kick that put Usman to sleep, Rogan and the rest of the commentary team felt they were watching a movie as they were already writing off Edwards.
“It was like a movie,” Rogan concluded. “We were counting him out. We were thinking he was going to lose a decision. Kamaru Usman was dominating. He was controlling the rounds.”
Undoubtedly, Edwards’ win will shake up the welterweight division and let’s wait and see how things will play out.
