Javier Mendez Will Stand By Daniel Cormier Side If He Decides To Face Jon Jones

Javier Mendez: “If Daniel Cormier Wants Another Showdown Against Jon Jones, It’s On Him”

Javier Mendez is the AKA (American Kickboxing Academy) head coach. Alongside Daniel Cormier, he is a head coach to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Cain Velasquez, and many other superstars.

Jon Jones stated that he is even ready to go Heavyweight to get a showdown against DC. But a few days ago, he said he plans two more fights against DC! Cormier was already defeated by Jon Jones at UFC 182 on January 3, 2015. Jones originally won their second match at UFC 214 on July 29, 2017. But the result was overturned when Bones was tested positive on Turinabol.

Javier Mendez recently stated he will support Daniel Cormier if he decides to fight Jon Jones for the third time. Despite he believes the third match versus Jon Jones is not necessary, he plans to stand by his fighter’s side. According to Javier Mendez, the decision depends on Daniel Cormier and nobody else.  “For me, he doesn’t ever need to fight him,” Mendez said on a recent episode of BJPENN.COM Radio. “It’s one of those things that it is what it is, you know? Unfortunately for Jones, he’s got two [failed drug tests] that are going against him that forever will haunt him. But [whether] that’s his doing or not doing, it doesn’t matter to me. What matters to me is, it is what it is. Daniel, if Daniel feels he needs to have another one with him, then that’s on Daniel. I’ll back him 100 percent. I’m gonna always be on my fighter’s side. So whatever my fighter wants to do, I’m going to be with them, but right now as far as I know, he’s planning one light heavyweight title defense and then Brock Lesnar and then calling it quits.

“Now if he decides that there’s a third fight looming with Jon somewhere down the line, that’s between DC and the UFC,” he continued. “But whatever he decides, if that is the case, then I will be 100 percent behind them and I would want it for him because that’s what he wants. But if he doesn’t want it, I don’t want it either.”

Jones can only hope USADA will have mercy and reduce his sentence. Daniel Cormier is slated for a UFC Heavyweight title defense match versus Brock Lesnar. The two should fight at the beginning of 2019. DC also thinks about the retirement. Would you like to see Jon Jones Vs Daniel Cormier 3? Do you support Javier Mendez?
