Jared Cannonier plans to make his potential title fight with Israel Adesanya an easy one.
Cannonier has caught the attention of Adesanya, who holds the UFC Middleweight Championship. “The Last Stylebender” has long expressed interest in fighting “The Killa Gorilla.” It’s a dream that nearly slipped out of Cannonier’s hands after a rough opening round against Derek Brunson back in February. Cannonier dusted himself off and knocked out Brunson in the second stanza.
Jared Cannonier Seeks “Easy” Work Against Adesanya
Jared Cannonier spoke to The Schmo, who gave him props for living up to his claim that he’d turn “blonde” Brunson into “bloody” Brunson. Cannonier has a new prediction for a clash with Adesanya.
“I certainly did, I certainly did and actually I’ve already come up with a new prediction for this fight. We’re gonna turn ‘Izzy’ Adesanya into ‘Easy’ Adesanya.”
Cannonier went on to say that if rumors are correct and he ends up facing Adesanya in late July, he’s on board with it.
“That’s perfect timing for me. Knowing that I already had a fight after my last fight, you’re in shape from the last camp, it’s not really gonna take — you know, already have something to focus on. Getting in the gym is easy as it always is because I love coming here, but when you come in here and really focus on something it’s like having a headstart in a race. I feel like I’m spending all this time now preparing for anything he can present to me. His size, his length, his skill, and even his team behind him cause I know that they’re a huge factor in this fight. So, we’re preparing for every aspect. We have plenty of time to do so.”
Cannonier has also heard rumblings that the event UFC may be targeting for him to challenge Adesanya could be held in his hometown, Dallas.
