Jalin Turner is staying in the UFC, and this was not some quiet paperwork afterthought. After sleeping Kaue Fernandes in 39 seconds at UFC 330, Turner revealed that he already has a new five-fight deal in place with the promotion.
The timing is the spicy part. Turner said his old contract ended with his knockout of Edson Barboza in December, the same comeback fight that followed his brief retirement. Then came the long wait, the matchmaking stall, the negotiation window, and finally the Fernandes booking in Philadelphia. Turner did not just win. He walked back into the lightweight traffic jam with a fresh deal and another body on the highlight reel.
Speaking with Ariel Helwani, Turner said the delay before UFC 330 came from a mix of contract talks and finding the right matchup. When asked if his deal had actually been up, Turner kept it plain.
“My deal was up,” Turner said. “Barboza was the last fight on my contract. So, I just signed a new five-fight deal with the UFC.”

Turner Let His Manager Work, Then UFC Came Through
Turner did not sound like a fighter who wanted to spend the week playing free-agent footsie in public. He said his manager handled the outside noise, and while he heard there were conversations beyond the UFC, the promotion ultimately brought him back where he wanted to be.
“I let my manager handle all that,” Turner said. “I’m happy with the UFC. I ain’t saying nothing else about it. I mean I heard some talks. But ultimately, the UFC came through; they always come through. So, I’m still here. I’m happy. I can’t complain.”
That is a pretty strong position after a rough emotional stretch. Turner briefly stepped away after his 2025 loss to Ignacio Bahamondes, saying the mental weight of fighting had become heavy. Since returning, he has knocked out Barboza and Fernandes in back-to-back first-round finishes. That is a hard reset with teeth.
The Fernandes finish also came with a UFC 330 performance bonus, because apparently 39 seconds of mayhem is still good business. The official UFC on Paramount+ clip showed Turner punishing the first big opening, chasing the finish, and leaving Fernandes with no time to build anything.

Turner made it clear the money part is not just about buying shiny things after a knockout. He talked about building something for his kids, helping his family, and making the most of a career that already asked plenty from him before the bright lights showed up.
“Everybody sees that moment under the lights, but they don’t see the 13 years it took to get to that moment just for the opportunity to make that money,” Turner said. “I’m trying to make the most of it and capitalize on it.”
Lightweight is still a mess of ranked names, BMF chatter, and matchup politics, but Turner has leverage again. He has a new UFC deal, a bonus-winning finish, and a much louder case than he had before UFC 330. After the way Turner talked up a Max Holloway-style BMF fight, the next booking might tell us whether the UFC sees him as a chaos merchant or a real player again.
