  • Velasquez will have his sentencing hearing in October and will be sentenced in a later time

Jake Shields doesn’t believe Cain Velasquez deserves to be in jail.

Cain’s fellow UFC fighters show their support

As Velasquez awaits his sentencing hearing for the attempted murder, assault and weapons charges dating back to the February 2022 shooting incident in San Jose, California, some of his UFC peers already think justice is not served.

Shields has been known in the MMA community for his outspokenness on sensitive issues regarding the sport but besides that, he has also been a supporter of his fellow UFC veterans.

Upon hearing the latest update on the former UFC heavyweight champion’s case, former UFC welterweight contender Shields quickly expressed his thoughts on the news. For Shields, Velasquez “did nothing wrong” and definitely should be set free.

Apart from Shields, UFC middleweight Derek Brunson also backs Velasquez as he faces one of the toughest situations in his life. By rekindling the #FreeCain movement, Brunson made it clear that he sides with Velasquez on the said case.

Cain chose to reduce his sentence

As it stands, Velasquez has already opted to take a no-contest plea for the sole purpose of significantly reducing his sentence and avoiding a possible life imprisonment. Though the no-contest plea, Velasquez’s premeditated murder charges will be ultimately dropped.

The 42-year-old is scheduled for his sentencing hearing on Oct. 18 but it was reported that the actual sentencing will be set some time after that date.
