Legal trouble involving former UFC heavyweight Jairzinho Rozenstruik has officially been resolved.
Authorities in Broward County, Florida chose not to continue the case after the fighter was arrested earlier this year. Court records show that two accusations tied to the incident were dismissed on March 6.
The charges included a felony allegation of false imprisonment and a misdemeanor battery charge. Both accusations were connected to a dispute that reportedly took place in January involving Rozenstruik and his wife.
The situation gained attention when documents submitted to the court revealed that the woman involved asked officials to drop the case.
In a written statement addressed to the court, she described the incident as something very unusual in their relationship.
“Myself and Jairzinho Rozenstruik have been married for approximately six years with no domestic related issues, this is completely out of the norm for either of us as we’ve never experienced this before,” the letter states. “We have one child together, who’s four years old, we do reside together as a family with no issues. He’s in fact an incredible father and husband. I’m not in fear of my life. I’m not in any danger at all.
“I will [request] that this court drops all of the charges against Mr. Rozenstruik and/or to at least allow him to have non-violent contact between myself and him.”
Officials from the district attorney’s office later determined that continuing the case would likely not lead to a conviction.
According to the decision explained in the court record, the alleged victim declined to give a sworn statement. Without that cooperation, prosecutors concluded that the case could not reasonably proceed.
Because of this, authorities dismissed the charges and closed the matter.
What police said happened in January
The initial police report described a heated argument between Rozenstruik and his partner while they were sitting inside a vehicle.
According to the report, the disagreement became physical during the incident. Officers wrote that Rozenstruik allegedly slapped his partner’s hand, which caused her phone to fall onto the car floor.
When she attempted to retrieve the phone, police said he struck her hand again and grabbed her arm in an effort to keep her from leaving the vehicle.
The report also included the woman’s statement that she responded by punching Rozenstruik several times in the head. During the argument she also referred to him as a “nasty beast.”
She later told officers that Rozenstruik became angry and bit her on the right bicep during the confrontation.
Police added in the report that Rozenstruik did not cooperate when they attempted to question him and he declined to provide further details at that time. He was arrested and later released after posting bail.
Rozenstruik, now 37 years old, built his reputation in the UFC heavyweight division where he competed for about six years. During that period he earned several knockout victories and faced multiple top contenders.
He eventually left the UFC roster in 2025.
Since then the Suriname born fighter has remained active in combat sports. He recently picked up two wins in the Dirty Boxing promotion created by Mike Perry.
With the legal case now closed, Rozenstruik is free to continue focusing on his career inside the ring.
