It seems that Demian Maia is welcoming a fight against Nick Diaz

You may be aware of the tapeless glove conspiracy at UFC 112 and perhaps even the lamentation given by Dana White after Ando’s theatrical performance. If you’ve heard of those two items, that’s great. You’ve officially passed today’s UFC quiz, now claim your reward. However, there’s a good chance that you’ve never heard of the Playboy Conspiracy and it all happened in Abu Dhabi after the second round in Silva vs. Maia. It was reported that during the second round, words were exchanged between the two fighters and just before the round ended, Anderson told Demian ‘Bate na minha cara playboy’ which translates to ‘Come on, hit me in the face playboy’ (which is apparently a large insult in Brazilian culture, go figure). Within a few days, it was reported that Anderson Silva didn’t make those comments, it was actually his corner who said ‘Bate na cara desse playboy’ which translates to ‘Come on, hit this playboy’s face‘. His corner also allegedly told Maia ‘You talked too much, now get spanked‘.

These Brazilians and their insults.

In an interview with TATAME Magazine, Demian Maia doesn’t throw around the ‘playboy’ terminology, but it appears that he’s politely welcoming a fight against Nick Diaz in the near future.

Dude, I think Nick Diaz and Jon Fitch that opponents would surely have much name this division and I would climb fast. The others, I think they are marked with struggles, but these two guys are certainly very tough and they would have proved much I climb in the division.

I think the two have much jiu-jitsu. Both with Nick as with Fitch. Both are good with that, just that I feel more focused on the Fitch’s wrestling than with his jiu-jitsu, and Nick is a guy more with boxing than jiu-jitsu.

It’s comforting to know that Demian Maia freely uses the word ‘dude’ in interviews. It makes me feel less like a dofus. Thank you Maia for the unintentional boost of self esteem.
