The stage is set for UFC 281 as reigning middleweight champion Israel Adesanya looks to defend his title for the sixth time against a familiar opponent, Alex Pereira.

Ahead of the fight, Izzy said he’s confident about handling everything Pereira will pull off and would just have to watch out for one thing.

6/10

In a recent interview with Combat TV, Adesanya was asked to assess his upcoming opponent via a “threat meter.” According to “The Last Stylebender,” Pereira is just 6/10 on it as he knows the Brazilian doesn’t have a lot of skills in his bag.

“Threat meter, to be honest, as an MMA fighter, I’ll give him a six, if I’m being honest,” Adesanya assessed. “Completely honest: threat meter six. There’s one thing he’s really good at. It’s that left hook and that’s what he catches many people with. He’s not going to catch me with a flying knee.”

Left hook, nothing else

Adesanya also pointed out that Pereira had nothing dangerous in his arsenal besides the “left hook,” the same weapon “Poatan” used when he knocked out Izzy out in kickboxing several years ago, and when he finished Sean Strickland at UFC 276 to earn a title shot.

“Left hook, that’s the main thing to look forward to,” he added. “If I can take care of that, I can take care of everything else.”

As things stand, Adesanya has not scored a win over Pereira as the Brazilian beat him via decision in 2016 and knocked him out a year later. But that was in kickboxing. In MMA, UFC 281 will be the first time the two will take on each other so it will be interesting to see how the fight will play out.
