Islam Makhachev isn’t a fan of Alexander Volkanovski wanting to move up to lightweight.
Volkanovski Wants More Gold
The UFC Featherweight Champion expressed interest in being a two-weight world champion after dominating ‘The Korean Zombie’ at UFC 273. With not too much deserving contenders at featherweight, Volkanovski wouldn’t mind facing the winner of Charles Oliveira vs. Justin Gaethje.
“I want to be active, I’ll move up,” Volkanovski told ESPN Australia & NZ. “I’ll work my options because I’m not holding anyone up and I’m doing my part. So if people don’t want to do their part, let’s have fun. Let’s have these money fights, let’s have these double-champ status [fights].”
Makhachev Reacts
That wouldn’t exactly sit well with top lightweight contender Islam Makhachev, who has been looking for a title shot of his own.
“Hold your horses cowboy,” Makhachev said of Volkanovski. “You have division full of young sharks, more than enough to stay busy. LW title fight is mine.”

Talk of Makhachev getting a title shot has been previously shut down by Dana White. So, maybe that’s not the next move for the lightweight fighter.
Even so, Islam Makhachev doesn’t think the featherweight king Volkanovski should jump the line at lightweight because of his success in a different division.
