Islam Makhachev is doing some talking before the lets his fists do the talking at UFC 280.

UFC 280 is just around the corner and now that all fighters have weighed in and are ready for battle it is just a waiting game. The two fighters being featured in the main event are lightweights Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev. Oliveira is the former champion who has not lost in 11 straight fights. The only reason he is not walking into this fight with the UFC strap around his waist is that he missed weight for his last bout and was stripped of the title. Many still see Oliveira as the champion, but Makhachev feels he is not getting the same respect for his name.

Makhachev has been one of the most dominant fighters on the UFC roster over the last few years. He is riding a 10-fight winning streak and has worked his way up the rankings. Oliveira has been critical of his rise, claiming he only got to the top because of his association with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Makhachev and Nurmagomedov are friends and training partners, and there is a constant comparison between the two, but Makhachev remains that he has earned this title shot all on his own.

Islam Makhachev claims Oliveira was looking for an easier bout this time around

Before receiving this fight with Makhachev, Oliveira had been calling for other opponents. Makhachev feels that he was trying to avoid this fight and look for easier options. He spoke about this while he was a guest on The Full Send Podcast

“Many people say Islam not deserve this fight and Charles said Islam not deserve the title fight by who he call? He called Conor McGregor this guy deserves? He called Nate Diaz and he tried to avoid me but he called like other guys who have like five, six-fight losing streak you know?” he said. “And before his title fight let’s see who he beat. He beat just two guys who have some name, Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson but at that moment Tony have four fight lose streak and Kevin Lee that moment they have like seven, in seven last fight he lose five times and these guys now say Islam not deserved but look at the rankings. Look at the all fighters in my division who deserve who have win streak more than me. Now 10 win streak, you have 11 win streak. I think this is big, big fight for the fans.”

There is no running or avoiding anymore as the fight is less than 24 hours away. UFC 280 will go down tomorrow, Oct. 22 live from Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. One of these two men will walk out of the arena as the new UFC lightweight champion.
