Irene Aldana Defeats Home Competitor Bethe Correia Via Third-Round Armbar in Rio de Janeiro!
UFC 237 PPV (pay-per-view) event is going down live tonight (Saturday, May 11, 2019) from inside Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Catchweight match (141 lbs, the Brazilian missed weight) between the Mexican fighter Irene Aldana and Bethe Correia kicks off the main card. The ref is Eduardo Herdy.
Round 1
In the first round, we’ve seen a lot of circling by Aldana, who was obviously trying to use her reach advantage to outbox the opponent. Correia was constantly going forward and even kept the center of the octagon in the early stages of the round.
Aldana was trying to stay away from Correia all the time, and that jab protected the distance well.
We’ve seen many 1-2 combinations from Aldana, while Correia was pressing her over and over. I think Aldana won the first round.
Round 2
Good low kick Aldana, and Correia didn’t check, another one. Great punches by Aldana, now Bethe goes forward.
Body punch Aldana, countered by a low kick. Aldana keeps circling, staying away from the opponent. Good left hook Bethe, great combo. Bethe eats a counter but delivers one punch.
Low kick Aldana. 1-2 Bethe, and another one, the Brazilian goes forward, the Mexican countered with a right straight punch. Right low kick Bethe. Wow, this right hand landed by Bethe!
Body shot Aldana. Jab Aldana, it successfully lands. Hook missed by a hair. Good punches on both sides. Aldana delivers a good cross. Weaving overhand right Correia, missed by a centimeter.
Jab exchange on both sides. It seems the Brazilian cuts the distance well, this right hook landed.
The Brazilian clinches up, pushes Aldana to the fence, but the Mexican escapes well, fighters are in the center of the cage again. Good punch exchange. Right overhand missed by Correia.
Wow, this right hand landed and Aldana is stunned!
But no, why did she close the distance and press the opponent to the cage? The Mexican survives.

No, Aldana retreats. Good right hand for the Brazilian. 1-2 combo Mexican, Correia misses few punches in a row. Low kick Bethe. Great combo by Correia, here goes brutal right hand, Mexican fires back.
Great jab-cross punch combo by Correia, she goes for all or nothing. Big right hand. Aldana cuts her with a left jab. Correia misses with a left hook. Right low kick Correia, Aldana delivers a punch to the head.
Oh, a mistake by Bethe, she went for a takedown, but ends up on the canvas!
Aldana goes for the armbar, and Correia taps out!!! It’s all over!!!
