The Invasion continues. Reports say Rory MacDonald has signed with Bellator

The Saturday night wars have a new defector. Former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald has signed with Bellator and has been booted from the UFC rankings. Only 27 years old, when MacDonald starts up with Bellator it will be his first fight outside of the UFC since September of 2009.

FloCombat with the first report on the latest move in MMA free agency

“The long-time top UFC welterweight has signed a new deal with Bellator MMA after a brief free agency period.

Sources close to the deal confirmed the news with FloCombat on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, MacDonald was removed from the UFC’s official rankings.”

Even though MacDonald has dropped his last two fights in the UFC , to Robbie Lawler and Stephen Thompson respectively, it is still somewhat surprising that the UFC would let a young Canadian star walk away from the promotion. MacDonald joins a Bellator welterweight division that includes Andrey Koreshkov, Paul Daley, Douglas Lima, Michael Page, Josh Koscheck, among others.
