Ilia Topuria will get a Paramount+ documentary before his next UFC title fight, with Topuria Matador scheduled to premiere on June 1.
The release lands less than two weeks before Topuria faces Justin Gaethje on the UFC White House card on June 14. The documentary gives Paramount+ and the UFC a direct way to build Topuria’s profile before a lightweight title unification fight that already has major promotional weight behind it.
The official trailer is below.
Topuria Matador is expected to focus on two key fights from Topuria’s rise. The first is his five-round win over Josh Emmett in June 2023, a performance that showed he could carry his boxing, takedown defense, pressure, and pace across a full main event. The second is his February 2024 knockout of Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 298, where Topuria won the featherweight title.
The Volkanovski knockout moved Topuria from unbeaten contender to UFC champion. He later defended the featherweight belt against Max Holloway at UFC 308, then moved to lightweight and finished Charles Oliveira in 2 minutes and 27 seconds to claim the vacant title.
Paramount+ Documentary Tracks Topuria’s Rise Before Gaethje Fight
The documentary is also expected to cover Topuria’s background away from fight night. Topuria was born in Germany to Georgian parents, spent part of his childhood in Georgia, and later moved to Spain, where his MMA career developed. His older brother Aleksandre Topuria is also a UFC fighter.
The film is expected to include training footage, weight-cut material, coaches, and opponent perspective. Topuria’s public profile often centers on confidence and prediction, while his results come from layered skills. He has knockout power, a strong grappling base, and the defensive awareness to punish opponents who overcommit.
Gaethje gives the rollout a serious competitive test. He brings pressure, leg kicks, durability, and proven finishing power at lightweight. Topuria has already beaten Emmett, Volkanovski, Holloway, and Oliveira during his rise through two divisions, but Gaethje can force long exchanges and punish clean entries.
The White House card gives the release a clear purpose. Paramount+ is using Topuria Matador to show how Topuria reached this point before he defends his lightweight title against Gaethje on June 14.
