If you’re expecting Alistair Overeem to fight Bigfoot Silva on September 10th, we have some bad news for you…

The next round of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix just may be nuked before it goes down, and it’s all due to a verbal warhead Alistair Overeem dropped on AOL today. According to today’s MMA Hour, Alistair Overeem stated that nothing has been signed for the September 10th date that has floated around the interwebs in the past couple weeks. Alistair Overeem stated that his camp mutually agreed upon on a fight date of October to take on Bigfoot Silva in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand-Prix. However, according to Overeem, ZUFFA is threatening to cut him out of the tournament if he doesn’t participate on September 10th. On the show, Overeem told Ariel that he felt like he has been ‘disrespected’ and he’s just not ready for a September fight date due to a lack of time for preparation and a few small injuries from his Fabricio Werdum fight. Alistair also said that he will fight on October, but it may be for another organization if he can’t settle his ‘dispute’ with ZUFFA. He also stated that boxing has become more of a reality to him, with the belief that it’s a new challenge. If he decides on it, boxing will be a serious endeavor for Overeem and he’s looking for an instant shot against one of the Klitschko brothers. [Source]
