Holly Holm has nothing but good things to say about Jon Jones.
The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion made his long-awaited heavyweight debut at UFC 285 earlier this month following a three-year layoff. Jones would make quick work of #1 contender Ciryl Gane, submitting him in the first round to win the vacant UFC Heavyweight title.
Holm On Jones’ Heavyweight Title Win
With an incredible performance in his return, Jones has made it close to undeniable that he’s the greatest of all time. Holm, Jones’ longtime teammate and friend, raved about the legacy of ‘Bones’.
“I think there’s a very few people in this sport that can really make waves like that,” Holm told Middle Easy and other reporters at UFC San Antonio media day. “You really can’t deny that his fighting style is just something— he’s got that ability to go in there and just win. He’s a very talented fighter.”
Jones Is ‘Similar’ To Tom Brady And LeBron James
When discussing the greatness of the two-division champion, Holm compared Jones to NFL & NBA legends Tom Brady and LeBron James, who have won many championships in their respective sports (Brady has won seven championships and James has won four).
“Any kind of support I look at even something like, I’m not even a Buccaneers fan or Patriot fan, but I’m still a fan of Tom Brady because he goes in there and he loves to win. You’re not gonna see another quarterback in the seven Super Bowls anytime soon. I think that that’s kind of similar [to Jones]. Just feeling any kind of sport, [like] LeBron James passing records.
“Then there’s this debate of who’s the greatest. But despite of who’s the greatest and all that, there’s times in careers where there’s a champion that stands out and there’s a greatness that stands out. So, I think anybody can look at Jon’s career and admire that. He gets in there and he knows how to win.”
