  • Henry Cejudo approached Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 276 to personally tell him he’s ready for a title shot
  • “Triple C” insists that he’s only after UFC champions

As he attempts to make an epic UFC return, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo made sure he was there when the featherweight strap was put on the line at the recent UFC 276.

Reigning 145-pound champion Alexander Volkanovski retained his title after outpointing Max Holloway in their trilogy match and Cejudo took the opportunity to personally tell Volk that he’s ready to compete.

Man-to-man talk

Cejudo and Volkanovski ran into each other after the fight and the pair’s brief yet intense face-to-face encounter was caught on video. In it, “Triple C” explained to Volkanovski that he has the utmost respect for him and he only wants to get a shot to see if he could still go further in terms of individual accolades.

“This is all competition, man,” Cejudo told Volk. “If an Olympic medal and two UFC belts ain’t enough, I just want to compete, Alexander. As a competitor, I respect the sh*t out of you. Congratulations No. 1. I just want to know how far I can take it. I’m here. I’m here… I think we can make something happen.”

It isn’t clear what “The Great” told Cejudo but judging by how the conversation went down, Volk seems ok with it as well.

Eyes on the price

Cejudo has been vocal about his desire to face the title holders at the featherweight, bantamweight and flyweight division to become the first-ever three-weight champion. From the look of it, it appears that “Triple C” has really got his eyes on the price as he has previously declined a call-out from Petr Yan and a rematch with Dominick Cruz.

With Cejudo being aggressive in his chase for a crack at UFC gold once again, it will be interesting to see who he will be facing when he finally makes his return.
