  • Henry Cejudo reckoned that Marlon Vera finished Dominick Cruz the same way he did
  • “Triple C” is not impressed by how “Chito” beat “The Dominator”

Marlon Vera put on a performance for the ages at UFC San Diego this past weekend with a highlight real KO win over Dominick Cruz. While many are raving about “Chito’s” stunning victory, former UFC champ-champ Henry Cejudo said he has done the same in the past and he’s not impressed by Vera’s version.

Cejudo knows how it feels

Taking his thoughts to Twitter, the outspoken former bantamweight king pointed out that Cruz made an identical mistake on Vera to that of their last fight at UFC 249 in 2020, which saw him getting knocked out in the second round. But ultimately, Cejudo is not impressed as he thought “Chito” could’ve gotten the job done earlier but he couldn’t do it as Cruz was getting the better of him the entire fight.

“Dominic (sic) was easily wining that fight (4-0) he leans the head to heavy and it’s the same way I knocked him out too. Chito won but I’m not impressed by his performance. Going back to much and getting point fought the whole fight. Chito could have finish him a couple times and didn’t,” Cejudo tweeted.

It is what it is

Further stressing his take on the fight, Cejudo said that that’s how the game works because even though Cruz was outstriking Vera, he got “clipped” and all of a sudden, his hard work was put to waste.

“That’s the name of the game,” Cejudo said on his YouTube channel. “Dominick was winning the fight for four rounds to zero before he got clipped with that head kick. ‘Chito’ was never in trouble, but he was getting outstriked, you see what I’m saying?”

“Yeah, he knocked him out,” he added. “But if you look at the whole fight, Dominick was peppering that dude. But ‘Chito’ did win.”

Vera is still at the No. 5 spot in the bantamweight rankings and is likely to stay put. However, his epic KO on Cruz certainly deserves a reward from the UFC so let’s see how things will play out.
