Henry Cejudo is confident that Jon Jones will end this year as the UFC heavyweight champion and cement his status as the greatest of all time.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jones has been out of action since taking on Dominick Reyes in Feb. 2020 at UFC 247. He managed to get past Reyes on the judges’ scorecards by a close-fought split decision that many believed could have gone either way. He relinquished the 205-pound title and announced a move up to the heavyweight division. Nearly three years later, Jones is still to make his comeback.

Henry Cejudo says Jon Jones will cement GOAT status in 2023

In a recent video uploaded on his YouTube channel, Henry Cejudo shared his thoughts on the highly anticipated return of Jon Jones to fighting.

“The person that comes to mind in 2023 is Jon Jones ‘Bones.’ He’s going to remind people why is it that he is the greatest of all time. There’s one thing missing in his whole credential so there won’t be any more questions about who is the GOAT, who is the greatest of all time. When we talk about the sport of mixed martial arts, there are still somewhat of question marks. I think it’s ironic that a lot of people will actually dismiss Jon Jones.

“But that being said, Jon Jones going up to heavyweight, going up against the guy that has the craziest power in UFC history by the name of Francis Ngannou. I do believe that will cement Jon Jones. It’s going to put a stamp on top of the stamp that he is the greatest of all time.”

Cejudo backed Jones to defeat Francis Ngannou

‘Triple C’ extended his support for Jones to beat reigning UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in an expected showdown.

“When I think of that matchup, especially Francis coming out of an injury and Jon being hungry, being out for three and a half years, I think the ball is really pretty much on Jon’s court. It really is in my eyes. It’s not just my opinion but for the simple fact that Jon Jones has been injury free. He has been training. He has had the ability of rekindling, resparking that fire once again.”

“100 percent he could be the heavyweight champion. I could see him fighting maybe a couple times or a few times depending on how he does with the competition.”

Henry Cejudo got linked to make his comeback against current bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling. An official announcement confirming the report is yet to be made.
