- Henry Cejudo doesn’t want to see Sean O’Malley getting a rematch with Merab Dvalishvili in his return
- “Triple C” criticized “Suga’s” ability to generated PPV buys
Henry Cejudo thinks Sean O’Malley doesn’t sells a lot of pay-per-view buys and doesn’t deserve to get a rematch with Merab Dvalishvili.
O’Malley shouldn’t get the nod
Speaking to Home of Fight, “Triple C” expressed his strong opinion on the current bantamweight title fight mix. For Cejudo, O’Malley should not get a rematch with Dvalishvili for a number of reasons.
For one, Cejudo thinks O’Malley’s fights don’t do well in PPV buys and more importantly, Cory Sandhagen is more deserving of a title shot.
“I think that’s stupid,” Cejudo said of Dvalishvili vs. O’Malley rematch. “It’s not like O’Malley is a pay-per-view king. His fights don’t do sh*t, man. I think the person that they should give him is [Cory] Sandhagen. That fight with Sandhagen makes a lot of sense. Sandhagen could potentially beat him. Sandhagen is tricky. I still think Merab beats him, but he has the tools to really shut out Merab’s freaking lights. I think that’s the cool thing about it.”
O’Malley vs. Yan rematch makes more sense
Cejudo further pointed out that “Suga” running it back with Petr Yan would’ve been an agreeable matchup. According to “Triple C,” the winner of that match could get a shot at the title once again but at this point, it should be Sandhagen.
“That would probably be a little more fair for both of them because they both got dominated [by Dvalishvili],” Cejudo explained. “But I think you give it to Sandhagen if I’m the matchmaker.”
O’Malley plans to return in April and his eyeing for a rematch with Dvalishvili. On the other hand, “The Machine” successfully defended his bantamweight title against Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 with a spectacular performance.
