Hector Lombard says Nate Marquardt turned down a title shot against him

Regardless of the amount of times you’ve dropped to your knees and prayed to the MMA gods for Nate Marquardt vs. Hector Lombard to happen in Bellator, it appears that it just won’t go down — at least according to Hector Lombard. On Sherdog’s ‘Savage Dog Show‘ this week, Hector Lombard made it clear that fighting Nate Marquardt will be a way for people not only to know who he is, but it will also make them well aware of what he is capable of. However, it appears that Marquardt has refused an immediate shot at the Bellator middleweight title. Here’s an excerpt from Fighter’s Only’s transcription of the interview.

“I think he is a cheater, but [against] me, he can take all the drugs he wants. I’m going to whoop his ass anyway,” Lombard said.

“Nobody respects me at the moment. That’s why I want to fight Nate Marquardt and show the people what I can do… He’s a big name up there. I’m ready for the challenge. I want to show everybody what I’m capable of doing.”

Lombard claimed that Bellator FC had already offered Marquardt an immediate title shot against him, which he claims Marquardt refused.

Hector Lombard vs. Nate Marquardt is the new Eddie Alvarez vs. Gilbert Melendez. Eddie Alvarez vs. Gilbert Melendez was the new Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko. Brock Lesnar vs. Fedor Emelianenko was the news Fedor Emelianenko vs. Randy Couture. We can take this boat all the way back to Ryan Gracie vs. Wallid Ismail, if you would like. [Source]
