Jon Jones has once again taken aim at Tom Aspinall, this time questioning his resolve after their would-be matchup was replaced by Aspinall’s no-contest bout against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321.
The British heavyweight’s fight ended abruptly in the first round when Gane’s finger accidentally poked Aspinall in the eye, leaving him unable to continue. While Aspinall has since shared updates showing his injured eye and continued medical consultations, **Jones wasn’t convinced** that the stoppage reflected the heart of a true champion.
Speaking on the No Scripts podcast, the former light heavyweight and heavyweight titleholder didn’t hold back.
“When Tom gets hurt, he’s like immediately incapacitated,” Jones said. “Immediately. It’s like you poke my eye, there was no like [trying to blink it out]. I would have been the silliest looking cat on national TV [blinking my eyes] trying [to continue].”
Jones Doubles Down on His Criticism
Jones, who had been set to face Aspinall before stepping away from competition, claimed he noticed a troubling pattern in the Brit’s career. The UFC veteran pointed back to Aspinall’s early loss in 2015, as well as his injury against Curtis Blaydes in 2022 that ended just 15 seconds into the fight.
“He did the same thing with Curtis Blaydes when he hurt his knee,” Jones continued. “There was no limping. There was no trying to get up. He was just immediately ‘burn my village, I can’t go on!’”
“He immediately quits. When he got tapped out with an ankle lock [in his first loss], there was no trying to fight his hands. He immediately quit. Immediately.”
Jones’s remarks only add to their already simmering rivalry. Aspinall had previously accused the American of avoiding him before vacating the title, and the tension between the two has only escalated online.
Jones Trolls Aspinall After UFC 321
After the controversial ending in Abu Dhabi, Jones took his taunts beyond the podcast. He changed his profile picture on X (formerly Twitter) to a duck wearing an eye patch—a clear jab at Aspinall. Later, during an appearance at Dirty Boxing 4 in Florida, Jones even arrived on horseback with the animal wearing an eye patch too.
“I’m just having fun with it,” Jones said. “He had at it with me, he had a long time coming at me so it’s to keep the fans engaged. It’s just to keep things fun.”
Aspinall, who is still recovering, has not yet responded directly to Jones’s latest comments. UFC President **Dana White** has suggested a potential rematch between Aspinall and Gane could happen next year, but with Jones stirring the pot, the heavyweight picture may soon have another layer of drama.
