Hardy Replaces JDS to Face Volkov in Moscow

UFC Heavyweight Greg Hardy is making a quick turnaround as a replacement to face Alexander Volkov at UFC Moscow. Hardy will have a chance to redeem himself and the controversy encircling his last fight. News of Hardy replacing Junior Dos Santos came by way of Brett Okamoto from ESPN.

Alexander Volkov vs. Greg Hardy will be the co-main event in Moscow. Nov. 9 main event is now Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar, however due to the short notice, it will remain a three-round fight.

Hardy will be looking for redemption after his last fight just four days ago. Using an inhaler between rounds caused Hardy’s unanimous decision victory to be overturned to a no contest. Hardy believed the usage of the inhaler was “USADA approved.” However, the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission believed the inhaler usage to be illegal.

Hardy’s agent, Malki Kawa said that Hardy requested stepping in to take the Volkov fight. Granting the request, the UFC made the fight the co-main event of UFC Moscow on November 9th. UFC Moscow will feature Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar as it’s the main event.

Hardy’s UFC Run

So now, Hardy will have fought twice within a span of 22 days. Additionally, the “Prince of War” will have fought five times in the year 2019. Controversy follows Hardy’s MMA career wherever he seems to go. However, it looks like his approach is to be as active as possible in hopes of winning fans over.

Volkov will be making his return after a year-long hiatus. His last appearance in the octagon saw him suffer a KO loss by the hands of Derrick Lewis at UFC 229. Before the bout with Lewis, Volkov was undefeated in the UFC with 4 straight wins.

Volkov vs Hardy

Alexander is currently ranked #7 in the UFC’s official heavyweight rankings. Beating Hardy would make national headlines and increase Volkov’s brand. It may increase it so much, that he could be right back in title contention.

Hardy, on the other hand, has yet to face a ranked opponent in the UFC. In fact, many fans gripe with Hardy’s career thus far is the lack of competition they believe the UFC has matched him with.

At UFC Moscow, fans will see if Hardy is ready for the huge step up in competition. Also, fans will hope to get through the bout successfully with no controversy.
