I have always wanted to walk into the grocery store and witness two old ladies throwing down over the last 50% off bottle of St. John’s Wort. With their elastic waist pants and appliqued sweaters and wigs and handbags flying everywhere complete with superman punches and flying knees. Tell me that wouldn’t be one of the most fantasticly entertaining things you’ve ever seen in your life. It’s sort of like hearing old people swear, it seems so wrong but the second you hear it you can’t help but snicker with glee.
I’d like to say that Beckie Lobb gives me hope to actually see a real live granny throwdown one day because she is a grandmother and about to make her cage fighting debut. I can’t though, because Beckie Lobb is not exactly your stereotypical blue haired knitting grandmother. She is only 40 years old and sure doesn’t look much like any image of a granny that comes into my mind. See for yourself:
Although Lobb has never fought an MMA fight she has competed in figure competitions and has also competed in a few NAGA grappling tournaments. She will be fighting 25 year old Katrina Branchal in her debut fight at the Hard Rock Cafe on April 9th in Albuquerque NM at an event hosted by Jackson’s MMA. Here’s what she had to say about her MMA experience and fight game plan when she talked to Ari LeVaux from Bleacher Report this week:
On her MMA experience: “No MMA experience, I do have some jiu jitsu in my background. I’ve played jiu jitsu for about a little over a year. I’ve been to three NAGA tournaments.”
On her gameplan: “I don’t know, my coach hasn’t even told me yet. It will be a surprise…yeah take ’em down and tickle ’em-that’s our gameplan.”
Beckie Lobb might just change the image of granny’s everywhere. I still don’t think you guys should go down to the local Kiwanis Club on fish fry friday expecting to score with someone as GILF material as Beckie though. You can check out Beckie and the rest of her interview here. [source]
