Gordon Ryan is explaining why there is bad blood between himself and Dillon Danis.
In the world of no-gi jiu-jitsu, there is one name that stands out, one man who seems to be levels above everyone else, that man is Gordon Ryan. In many circles, Ryan is considered the best jiu-jitsu practitioner in the world. He has not lost in years and is making more money than anyone else in the sport. With this sort of success, a person is bound to have enemies and people who are jealous, in this case, Dillon Danis.
Danis is a former BJJ practitioner who decided to make the leap to MMA and more recently boxing. His claim to fame was his association with Conor McGregor and although he has not fought in any sport for over three years, he makes up for it by calling people out on social media. He has started online wars with Ryan on occasion without much retaliation but now Ryan is giving his thought on his former opponent.
Gordon Ryan lays into Dillon Danis for being all talk
Ryan was recently on Brendan Schaub’s Food Truck Diaries show and was asked about Danis. The two have competed against each other before, but since then have been on very different paths. Ryan began to accuse Danis of not trying hard and critiqued his lifestyle of partying. He said that Danis was a great competitor when he was younger but these days does nothing of worth.
“If there is one thing that Dillon is an absolute master at it’s staying relevant without actually doing anything,” he said. “If you can’t give him credit for anything you can at least give him credit for that. He stays relevant whether he’s fighting people, whether he’s scheduling matches that he’s not going to take like whatever you have to say about Dillon he definitely does a great job, we’re talking about him right now.”
Danis and Ryan definitely do not see eye to eye. They have different work ethics and have been voicing their disdain for each other on social media. Ryan explains that he has no hatred for Danis and just feels he is better than him.
“I think Dillon genuinely doesn’t like me because when I attack him it’s just based off like, I post statistics and I talk about what’s actually going on,” he said. “So I know that it hurts him where he can’t really say anything about me because I just win all the time. I think that he genuinely gets hurt when I attack him so he doesn’t actually like me but I don’t have a problem with him. I just think he’s very good at doing the marketing side of things but if you’re very good at talking and you don’t actually compete and you can’t win then I just think you’re a clown.”
Danis was scheduled to make his boxing debut against KSI earlier this year but bailed on the fight. He has also been offered a fight with Ryan but has not accepted at this time.
