Science fiction television is perhaps one of the worst genres of television known to man. That isn’t to say that there aren’t some absolute gems out there, because there are. My Netflix viewing habits involve multiple run-throughs of series like Firefly, Battlestar Galactica and every Star Trek known to man (DS9 > *). Maybe that is why whenever a new sci-fi show hits the airwaves I feel like I have to at least give it a shot and watch a few episodes of it, even though I’m almost always sorely disappointed by how crappy it is. FOX especially has a way of creating the same damned show every time (some sort of police procedural) but just slap on a coast of science fiction tropes and production values on it then wonder why it fails.
The latest in a long line of strange FOX science fiction shows is called Almost Human, which is a buddy cop show involving Karl “Dr. McCoy” Urban as the technophobic cop with a cybernetic implant as well as an “urban” robot partner who was put out to pasture, but brought back. If it sounds like a smattering of Will Smith movies it’s probably because it is, but whatever, Gina Carano is making a guest spot in the February 3rd episode where she is appearing as a sexy robot (let’s just call her a CYBORG, okay?) who both wears lingerie and shoots big guns.
If you want to get into conspiracy theories, you could say that FOX is the home of the UFC and that Gina Carano appearing on a FOX program as a “cyborg” might be hinting at a possible fight. Gina Carano, FOX, Cyborg, UFC… Half-Life 3 confirmed.
