Burns was recently interviewed on Jimmy Smith’s “Unlocking The Cage” radio show on Sirius XM, and discussed what could be next for him inside the Octagon.

The former welterweight title challenger explained that he’d like to step into the Octagon against Jorge Masvidal next, who he has a lot of respect for, and hopefully with his BMF Championship on the line.

“I think a big fight that makes a lot of sense is Jorge Masvidal or Colby Covington. I kind of heard that Colby Covington wasn’t going to fight for a while because of the accident that happened between him and Jorge Masvidal.

“But I believe Jorge is going to be ready soon, and that’s the fight I’m looking for. He had that BMF belt, I’m one of the BMFs of that division. He’s coming from a loss, I’m coming from a loss.

“I think he lost to Colby Covington which is the one he’s really mad about, and he kind of had a lot of blood on his mouth – so do I. I respect the guy a lot. I don’t judge the guy for his acts or for his last two losses.

“If you see, the guy has a couple of losses, but two losses to Kamaru – number one pound-for-pound, and for Colby Covington, number one in the world. So I don’t discredit the guy.

“But I do believe he’s going to try and put on a show. I’m going to try and finish him, he’s going to try and do the same. I just think it’s going to be a good fight. That’s the fight I’m looking for next.”

Burns is currently the No. 4-ranked welterweight in the UFC. His last Octagon appearance resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Khamzat Chimaev. With the loss, Burns has dropped two of his last three.

As for Masvidal, he’s currently the No. 8-ranked welterweight in the UFC, having lost three straight. The first two being title opportunities against Kamaru Usman. His latest fight was a long-awaited grudge match with Colby Covington.

Covington defeated Masvidal via unanimous decision at UFC 272 in March. Not too long after, Masvidal attacked Covington at a restaurant and is facing felony charges for the incident.
