Gilbert Burns wants the BMF title on the line in Miami.

Gilbert Burns has been one of the most active fighters in the UFC over the past few years. He has his sights set on a welterweight title and he is taking any fight necessary that could potentially get him there. He has had several tough fights in a row and although not all went his way, he continues to push forward. Now Burns has his next bout on the horizon and feel that there should be a title on the line.

He will be facing Jorge Masvidal on April 8 in Miami, Florida as the co-main event of that card. This is a huge event with a middleweight title bout as the headliner, but Burns has an idea that could make it even more interesting if Masvidal’s “Baddest Mother-Fu–er” belt were on the line as well.

Gilbert Burns feels he is the new BMF in the UFC, willing to fight anyone

Masvidal won this made-up belt back in 2019 when the UFC created it specifically for the fight between him and Nate Diaz. The title was never meant to be defended but that has not stopped fights from calling it out. Now Burns is the latest fighter who believes that he is worthy of a BMF fight. He makes his case as to why he should be named the new “Baddest MFer” in the UFC. He spoke about this to Submission Radio.

“That’s why, because I fought these guys that I shouldn’t fight like Khamzat, like Neil Magny or Jorge you know those fights, as a ranking-wise it doesn’t pull me closer to the title but I keep taking those fights anyways,” he said. “It’s this or start begging for title fight, you know, I’m not this guy. I’m gonna keep fighting. I’m gonna get better eventually I’m thinking I’m earning another title shot maybe with a great win after Jorge or maybe one more you know it.”

Burns has fought some of the toughest the UFC has to offer at 170 pounds over the last few years. He is also one of the most active fighters in terms of callouts. He is constantly looking to fight the best and never says no to a bout. He even put a clause in his contract that states he only wants to fight five-round bouts. It is because of his attitude that he feels the BMF title should be his.

“It doesn’t matter, I wanna become a champion I’m gonna keep chasing that and I’ll fight whoever they put in front of me.” he said, “For sure I want the Colby fight, one of those guys in the top but whenever they keep saying no I don’t want to keep waiting so I want to stay busy and I think that’s why I want to put a BMF title on the line, because I represent that guy that literally fights anyone at any time.”

In comparison over the last year, Burns has fought six times since 2019, he won four of those bouts. Masvidal has fought three times since he won the BMF belt, and all three were losses.
