Gianni Vazquez is back in the UFC because Jessie Rosas lost his debut spot on fight week.
Rosas, the older brother of Raul Rosas Jr., was scheduled to face Miles Johns on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at UFC Vegas 120 inside Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Raul said the fight was stopped by a UFC doctor over a forehead scratch that was treated as a possible infection.

The card change quickly created a second UFC opening for Vazquez, who already had one strange short-notice chapter with the promotion earlier this year.
Another late change to Saturday’s card. Miles Johns is now taking on Gianni Vazquez at 145lbs. Jessie Rosas is out.
Vazquez Gets Another Emergency UFC Door
Vazquez was called in during February as a late replacement for Said Nurmagomedov against Javid Basharat. That week went sideways: he missed the bantamweight limit by five pounds, gave up part of his purse, fought Basharat to a decision, then left the roster soon after.
The robbed part of the story is not a scorecard claim. It is the roster timing: Vazquez helped rescue one short-notice UFC bout, got cut after the loss, then was brought back roughly six months later to rescue another one.
He returned to the win column outside the UFC with a second-round knockout of Komronbek Ortikov under the Combate Global banner. This new call gives him a chance to turn the strange release-and-return cycle into something permanent.
Miles Johns Still Needs The Win
Johns enters the new matchup listed at 15-5 with 1 no contest. The veteran bantamweight had already moved up to featherweight for Rosas, so the UFC kept the replacement fight at 145 pounds instead of asking Vazquez to make bantamweight on short notice.
That matters because Vazquez weighed in heavy for the Basharat fight. This time, the fight-week update moved the replacement bout into a weight class that fits the scramble better.
Johns has dropped three straight fights, including setbacks against Felipe Lima, Jean Matsumoto, and Daniel Marcos. That makes the late switch more dangerous than it looks: a short-notice opponent can be chaotic, but Johns cannot afford another skid-extending result.
Jessie Rosas Has To Wait
Jessie Rosas came into the original booking at 8-1, with his short-notice UFC debut already tied to the Rosas family story. The medical scratch now pushes that debut back without changing the larger reason people were watching him.
UFC Vegas 120 already had several moving parts around the card, including Quillan Salkilld asking for the Mateusz Gamrot main event and Darren Elkins setting up his retirement fight. Johns vs. Vazquez now adds a different kind of pressure: one fighter trying to stop a losing streak, and another trying to make the UFC undo its own cut.
