If you live on the east coast and need a reason to celebrate tonight besides the fact that you might be one of the lucky people that don’t have to go into work tomorrow thanks to Good Friday, well here it is. The UFC announced yet another upcoming event for this eastern most side of the US of A. The eastern onslaught of live UFC events starts in just a few weeks with Atlanta for UFC 145 on April 21st and then hits New Jersey on May 5th, Virginia on May 15th and finally as announced today-winds up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on June 8th. That’s qualifies as a plethora of potentially cheap airfare or roadtrip possibilites for all of us eastern MMA fans.
The UFC hasn’t been to Florida since it brought the Octagon to Tampa in early 2009 for UFC Fight Night 17. Thanks to fans that voted in the UFC Harley Davidson Hometown Throwdown contest the UFC will be hosting the June 8th UFC on FX 3 event at Fort Lauderdale’s BankAtlantic Center. Here’s a look at the full fight card as it has been announced and rumored to date:
Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall
Scott Jorgensen vs. Eddie Wineland
Mike Pierce vs. Carlos Eduardo Rocha
Seth Baczynski vs. Lance Benoist
Dustin Pague vs. Jared Papazian
Leonard Garcia vs. Matt Grice
Josh Neer vs. Mike Pyle
Charlie Brenneman vs. Erick Silva
Caio Magalhaes vs. Buddy Roberts
Bernardo Magalhaes vs. Henry Martinez
This event is headlined by the promised rematch between Ian McCall and Demetrious Johnson after that nutty scoring mishap in their fight earlier this month that lead to an unfortunate draw. That fight alone should be enough to get you Floridians hyped about this news. I hope you aren’t even reading this anymore. I hope you are so excited you have run out into your palm tree laden front yard and are in the midst of superman punching your blue haired neighbors plastic flamingo yard ornaments in gleeful celebration.
