Georges St-Pierre Wants To Hand Undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov His First UFC Defeat

Undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov put on a dominant performance over Conor McGregor and submitted Irishman in the fourth round at the highly anticipated UFC 229 in Las Vegas.

Aside from round three, McGregor spent the entire fight getting smothered by Nurmagomedov. Khabib who’s undefeated with an immaculate record of 27-0.

A former UFC middleweight and welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre who expressed his interest in facing the winner of Khabib vs. Mcgregor and from a while there was a lot of buzz about St-Pierre is dropping to 155-pound.

Now former champion wants to be the first fighter in the UFC to hand Khabib his career’s and UFC’s first loss.

“I always say that the thing that excites me the most is when I could be the first to do something, you know? When something can’t be done and people doubt me or say it’s impossible to do or you can never do it,” explained “Rush” when asked what fight interests him most at the moment during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show.

The UFC head honcho Dana White isn’t too keen to offer St-Pierre another title opportunity, much like what he did when he won the middleweight title at UFC 217 after beating Michael Bisping and then shortly after relinquishing the belt citing health concerns.

If White change his mind and Khabib cleared his Commission issues then this showdown has a possibility, and St-Pierre would get a chance to become the first ever fighter in history to win titles in three different weight classes. (H/T MMAMania)

“He’s a great champion and in terms of legacy. I can’t think of a better man, a fighter right now who has a better legacy than Khabib in terms of popularity and legacy,” he added. “If you look at the real fighters, not only as to who sells the most, but in terms of who’s the real pound-for-pound fighter, I think he ranks right up there.”

It’s still unclear whether St-Pierre will ever return to UFC Octagon as he’s financially content. Khabib’s currently on temporary suspension by NSAC and threatens to leave the UFC after how promotion handled the post-fight melee situation.

  1. A GSP vs Khabib fight is absolutely a legendary fight. With striking and wrestling/grappling at the highest level. If there is any doubt about GSP making Lightweight, you just have to look at his most resent pictures and listen to him talk how good he is feeling and how low his weight is.
