Georges St Pierre is getting the biopic treatment, and this is one of the rare MMA stories with enough range to carry a full film without feeling forced.
Variety reported that a movie based on St Pierre’s life is officially in development. Director Thomas Soto is attached and casting is underway. His name is still active in the sport’s current conversation through stories like GSP callout and ongoing legacy debates like WW debate.
St Pierre confirmed the project and said this will not be a standard sports movie.
“We’ve been thinking about telling my story for a while,” St Pierre told Variety. “When we found the right team, it became clear we wanted to approach it in a new, creative way.”
Soto said the film will focus on the person behind the public image.
“I want to tell the story of Georges behind GSP in a way that feels intimate, honest, and deeply human,” Soto said. “It’s a privilege and a responsibility to bring that to life.”

The history arc that gives this movie real weight
St Pierre entered the UFC in 2004, faced early adversity against Matt Hughes, rebuilt, and then beat Hughes in their rematch to capture the welterweight title. He later lost the belt in the famous Matt Serra upset, then returned again and built one of the most dominant title runs in division history.
Across that championship era, he beat elite names and evolved into one of MMA’s most complete tactical fighters. After stepping away for several years, he returned at middleweight and submitted Michael Bisping at UFC 217 to become a two division champion.
That full arc still drives modern all time discussion, including recent all time talk and wider crossover attention around major personalities such as Rogan on Rousey.
If this film gets the Hughes rivalry, Serra shock loss, and Bisping comeback chapters right, it has a real chance to land with both hardcore fans and mainstream audiences.
