Georges St-Pierre shares a funny story of being starstruck during one of his early fights.
As far as MMA goes many fans believe that Georges St-Pierre is the greatest of all time. He was the best fighter in the world at 170 pounds for the majority of his career, and now that he has hung up his gloves for good, St-Pierre is pulling back the curtain of his fight career, both the good and the bad. St-Pierre left MMA back in 2013 after defending his UFC welterweight title nine times. His hiatus at the time was brief as he decided to make a comeback four years later. He won the middleweight title in 2017 and then walked into retirement for good.
During his time in the UFC, St-Pierre was one of the biggest stars in the combat sports world. Even since retirement, he continues to be one of the most recognizable faces in fighting. However, when he first began his rise to stardom, he recalls being starstruck himself. Now he is sharing a lighthearted and funny story of being in awe of a world-famous model during one of his most important fights.

St-Pierre was a guest on the Full Send Podcast where he spoke about his fighting career. He was candid during the interview and expresses the stress and fear he felt during his fighting days. St-Pierre revealed that he never really enjoyed fighting and that it caused him a great deal of anxiety. He did however remember a funny time when the sight of model and actress Cindy Crawford got his blood pumping during a fight.
“I remember I saw, we have a little TV in the locker room and sometimes they showed the celebrities in attendance and I saw Cindy Crawford,” he said. “She used to be my favorite like, oh my gosh, she’s so beautiful, and still today she’s like an amazing woman. I saw she was in the crowd, I was like oh my god, she’s gonna be watching me perform and I was nervous. I was already nervous. And during the fight, there was a moment when my nose is bloody and I got BJ Penn against the fence. And I look through the fence and I saw Cindy Crawford, this is a true story.”
St-Pierre laughed while he explained his out-of-body experience looking on at his crush while he beat up a man for pay.
“I’m thinking this as you can imagine at the time, I look and I saw Cindy Crawford. I’m like, Oh my gosh, she’s so beautiful. And I’m thinking, I look at her and I’m bloody and I’m in the clinch, over under, and I got BJ Penn’s back against the fence, I’m like she’s so hot. Then I look next to her, she’s with her husband,” he continued. “Her husband is watching me staring at his woman. I’m like, of course, he is, I’m doing the show right now and then I get back into the fight.”
St-Pierre fought Penn twice during his career. He did not specify which bout this was, but the distraction must not have been too great since he won both meetings between the two.
