UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has received some advice from one of his predecessors, Georges St-Pierre.

There was a meeting between two great UFC fighters both past and present. Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and former champ Georges St-Pierre had a meet-up and chatted with each other over dinner. The meeting was filmed and posted to Adesanya’s YouTube page. It appears as if the two had never met before but quickly became friends, sharing stories and advice.

The Hall of Famer, St-Pierre has been in the same situation that Adesanya finds himself in right now. He was a former champion, and a dominant one. He knows firsthand the stress, both physically and mentally that comes with being a UFC champion and decided to share some of his wisdom with Adesanya.

“I think that’s maybe one of the reasons why you get touched so much with these criticism,” he said. “It’s good that you use it as a fuel to motivate you because it gives you more energy to prove them wrong, but don’t pass the line. Heavy is the crown.”

St-Pierre gave Adesanya some good advice on how to deal with the criticisms that come with fighting professionally

Adesanya is currently standing at the top of the UFC 185-pound division. He has defended his belt five times but has been on the receiving end of fan criticisms. People have complained that Adesnaya’s recent fights were boring, but St-Pierre feels that he is reacting to the harsh words in exactly the right way.

“It’s only the beginning for you, I’m honest with you, I like you, I’m telling you the truth,” he said. “Nobody can understand but they get worse and it’s more, it adds more weight to your shoulder every fight, every fight is bigger and bigger and the criticisms are worse and the expectation are more and more and sometimes this adventure can change you from the inside out and changing the brain is your center of government you don’t want that to change. Especially not right now.

Perhaps Adesanya can take the words from one of the greatest MMA fighters ever and have them fuel him into his next bout. Adesanya will be facing Alex Pereira at UFC 281 in New York City on Nov. 12.
