The Dreamcatcher will be in the UFC shortly, ready to entangle every fantasy in the light heavyweight division. Maybe even the middleweight division if we’re so lucky. Yes, Gegard Mousasi will be walking nonchalantly to the Octagon soon, and it’s been a long journey, but he’s finally here – and he wants to fight. Specifically, he wants to fight Alexander Gustaffon, Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida, which sounds great to all of us in the shockingly messy MiddleEasy offices, but we want to take it a step further. There are some other men we want to see Gegard Mousasi catch the dream of (it’s OK to end a sentence on a preposition, become free of those restraints). The men we want to see Gegard fight in the UFC are listed below in no specific order.
Jon Jones, Jimi Manuwa, Cyrille Diabate, Dan Henderson, Rampage Jackson, Forrest Griffin, Lil Nog, Rafael Cavalcante (if he comes to the UFC after suspension) Glover Teixeira, Joey Beltran, Brandon Vera and more (Rashad/Phil Davis).
This is what he said to Ariel Helwani:
“I think timing’s right,” said Mousasi of entering the UFC. “I’ve done everything outside of UFC – Strikeforce, Japan, kickboxing, mauy-thai, I think the time is now to go, to fight those well known names.
“I’m not challenging (Gustafsson), but I think that’s a good fight. I want to fight him because he’s a good fighter; people think he’s a good fighter. Shogun, Machida – all of these guys people consider really good fighters, so I want to fight someone that people think is good and I think these match ups are more exciting than against some other opponents and they’re top contenders so, I think fighting them would make sense for me the most so I can go earlier to the title shot.”
Let’s book those fights for March. All of them.
