Gegard Mousasi has always been one of the most underrated fighters in the entire sport of MMA, and after his win at Bellator 275 he claimed he is the best middleweight in the world.

It was a short night for the 2x Bellator middleweight champion on Friday. Mousasi finished Austin Vanderford in less than two minutes in Ireland, defending his belt for the second time.

Best middleweight

The MMA legend from the Netherlands has never claimed to be the best fighter and that might have been to his detriment throughout his career, but after his win, he said he feels he is the best middleweight in the world.

“I was hungry. I was more determined than him and I’m in my prime,” Mousasi told reporters during his post-fight interview. “I feel I’m the best middleweight in the world right now. I never said that because I never thought that I was the best. But I told everyone this training camp, that this day, I was the best middleweight. I don’t know about tomorrow, but today I was the best.”

Of course, with Mousasi claiming to be the best middleweight, people will bring up the UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya. MMA fans and analysts can debate all night long who is better. When asked how a potential fight between the two would go, Mousasi feels he would have a very good chance.

“I train with guys who fought Israel Adesanya,” Mousasi added. “They did well against Israel Adesanya or won, and I’m better than them in the stand-up. So of course, I feel like I have a great chance. I can win.”

Mousasi claimed he has two more fights that he is excited about but didn’t mention who they were. Bellator President Scott Coker said he plans to keep his middleweight champion very active.
