Gegard Mousasi isn’t too keen on facing Anderson Silva in an MMA fight but boxing is a different story.
Silva has found quite a bit of success post-UFC. While he will go down as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time, “The Spider” didn’t get an ideal sendoff at the end of his UFC run. With the transition to boxing, Silva has scored victories over former world boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Tito Ortiz.
Gegard Mousasi vs. Anderson Silva In Boxing?
Gegard Mousasi spoke to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour and said that he wouldn’t be opposed to sharing the boxing ring with Silva.
“Unfortunately I’ve fought twice the last two years. I would have loved to fight more but it’s the pandemic. They’re gonna keep me busy this year. Three times, and I want to fight Anderson Silva in boxing. My managers are gonna push for that fight. You, Anderson, don’t run away from me.
“Now it’s up to him. I think it’s not very interesting [to fight him in MMA]. In MMA he has lost, but in boxing he’s still winning. I think it’s different and it’s more entertaining.
“I threw it out to Scott [Coker] and Showtime. … I’ve been pushing for it.”
For now, Mousasi is focused on putting his Bellator Middleweight Championship on the line against Austin Vanderford. The title fight will headline Bellator 275 on Feb. 25. It’ll be held inside the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
