Gable Steveson just made a move that should make wrestlers, promoters, and heavyweight matchmakers pay attention.
The 2020 Olympic gold medalist and two-time NCAA champion has signed with Real American Freestyle. No debut date is official yet and no opponent is locked, but the direction is obvious: Steveson is returning to high-level mat competition while keeping his MMA engine running.
RAF CEO Chad Bronstein said:
“Gable is a generational athlete and one of the biggest stars our sport has ever produced. We set out to build a true professional home for the best wrestlers in the world and Gable choosing RAF is proof that we’re doing exactly that.”
That statement sounds promotional, but it tracks with reality. Steveson is 25, has blue-chip wrestling credentials, and already carries crossover pull in combat sports. He is not a developmental project hoping for attention. He already has it.

RAF Contract Added, UFC Route Still Alive
This is not an MMA exit. It is a smart portfolio play.
Steveson remains active in MMA at 3-0, including his latest first-round stoppage win. He has also trained with elite names in camp crossover sessions, including Jon Jones on the mats.
RAF has quietly built a recognizable roster lane with active MMA names, including Arman Tsarukyan activity and Colby Covington’s RAF booking. Adding Steveson gives the promotion instant name value and gives Steveson another platform to keep momentum hot between MMA opportunities.
The headline here is simple: RAF gets a marquee athlete, wrestling gets a spotlight name, and Steveson keeps his UFC path intact while stacking leverage in multiple lanes.
