Further proof that MMA isn’t the only sport that has ground and pound

When I lived in Wales, some drunk guy came into the bar I worked at and proclaimed soccer is a game of gentlemen played by hooligans and rugby is a game of hooligans played by gentlemen. Shortly after he made that statement, the dude got into a bar fight and was brutally escorted out of the place through the means of a well-placed right hook. He never paid his bill — which means he had a night of drunken fun for absolutely free. What a hell of a technique to get some free booze — I want to see that implemented more in the States, just be sure to film it.

Allegedly, Gloucester Rugby’s Andy Hazell was eye-gouged by an opponent at their Amlin Challenge Cup match last night. To even the illegal playing fields, Hazell unleashed a PRIDE-like array of ground-and-pound that would even make Fedor blush. Here’s what Hazell said on his Twitter account later that evening regarding the altercation.

“Never had a red in 12 years, extremely embarrassed by my actions. It was the 3rd time someone tried to severely injury me and I reacted. In a way I wish I could take back. But when you are in that situation you don’t know how you would react.

No referee stoppage on this one, folks. Apparently the Sky Sports camera cut away from the smack-down, so this rather intense .gif below is all we have of the incident.
